I’m Henry Bankes and I joined as an employer-nominated Trustee in 2020.
I am General Counsel and Company Secretary for BTA and have held this post since late 2019. My main responsibilities are to ensure that BTA operates in a legally compliant manner, in particular, given its status as an arms-length body. I also have administrative responsibility for the BTA Board and the VEAB.
I have a degree in Business Studies from Edinburgh University and qualified as a solicitor in 1995. I started my career in the travel and leisure sector with Thomson Holidays (now TUI UK) in 1998. I then worked for Wyndham Worldwide as Head of Legal for its vacation rental and timeshare exchange divisions in the EMEAI region for some 14 years. When that business was sold in 2018, I remained for a time to assist in its transition to new ownership, and then left and joined BTA. I was a trustee of a similar, but smaller, scheme for Wyndham during my time there.
I am also a trustee of a small charity focused on helping children with disabilities and have an honorary role as Deputy Secretary General of the European Holiday Homes Association, an association I helped to establish to represent the interests of the holiday home sector at EU level.
I greatly enjoy travel and during my time at Wyndham was lucky enough to travel extensively both in the EMEAI region and the US. I have also taken great delight in organising many holidays for my family, visiting such wonderful places as Namibia and Svalbard as well as having enjoyed many holidays to holiday houses across Europe over the years.
